LIHUE — Daysha Nelmida Rice donned the breast cancer wings and her dog, Ari Lynn Chubs Rice, was the rainbow butterfly to win the grand prize at the Howl-O-Ween doggie costume contest presented by the Kauai Animal Welfare Society and Natural Pet Hawaii at the Kukui Grove Center.
Ann Cabreira and Maile took the Pset-Owner Lookalike judging, and Abby as the Pet-itary (Unhinged) was the Scary winner. Simon became the Barefoot Bandit to end up the Most Original, and Danny (the UPS Man) earned more points than Angel and the Shadow Ewok in the Cutest category.
Halloween madness continues Saturday when Kukui Grove presents its Halloween Festival with 100 free pumpkins, courtesy of the Family and Friends of Agriculture, will be presented along with the Kauai United Way walkathon, the costume contest, and the annually popular mall trick-or-treating.
