County workers should drive smaller vehicles
I would like to know why most of the county workers are driving big, gas-eating SUVs when they say there is little money in the budget for road repairs and infrastructure. They could have purchased two Toyota Corollas for every SUV purchased, and would save on gas.
Even the police department has many of these vehicles. Why not buy Cadillac Escalades?
Stop wasting money. Spend it where it is needed.

County should be more efficient
Isolating and focusing on one sentence from a huge response to our traffic situation here on Kauai is taking a cheap shot at Gary Hooser’s remark about doing nothing.
I have seen many government agencies spend time and money inefficiently as they place a “Band-Aid” to fix a serious problem. Using our $25M to possibly create a similar or worse situation in the long run will hurt us all.
The money to improve our traffic situation must be spent wisely. We need to have a well-thought-out, workable plan before we move forward. As it is, I am appalled that the county can not do a quality permanent fix on the entrance to Kealia (Beach Park) restrooms parking lot. The county regularly comes when the situation is very serious.
If the county can’t make a permanent repair on 20’ x 30’ I wouldn’t give them my money. The Wailua Bridge was built too small. Cars making a left onto Kuamoo fill the turn lane and stop traffic on the inside lane going north, leaving only one lane moving freely across the bridge and creating a perfect situation for an accident. This situation is getting a Band-Aid fix but, where was the foresight on the part of the planners?
Why not keep the money gaining interest while a solid, workable, multifaceted plan is being developed and in the meantime, do nothing … or try fixing Kealia?
