Alton Gene Kanter
Alton Gene Kanter of Kalihiwai Valley passed away at home on Sept. 23, 2017, at the age of 89. He was born in West Virginia on July 29, 1928, and was a self-employed acupuncturist.
He was preceded in death by son David Kanter, parents Bessie and Bernard Kanter, and brothers Norman and Harold Kanter.
He is survived by wife Janey Kanter, son John (Terry) Kanter, daughters Catherine (Randy) Young, Lea Weldon and Leilani (Matt) Zehnder, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sister Anita Kappe, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church in Hanalei, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. and services celebrated at 10 a.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Harriet Misayo Kimura
Harriet Misayo Kimura, 86, of Lihue, passed away on Sept. 19, 2017, in Lihue.
Born on Oct. 23, 1930, in Lihue, she was a retired clerk at Wilcox Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by father Tsunaichi Iwamoto, mother Haru Iwamoto, husband Richard Motoi Kimura, brothers Tetsuo, Haruo, Hiroshi and Satoru Iwamoto, and sisters Yoshiko Hadama, Fumiyo Horie and Alice Tadai.
She is survived by daughters Pamela (Herbert) Hirota and Michelle (Placido) Valenciano, brothers John (Asako) Iwamoto, Richard (Doris) Iwamoto and Henry (Sachi) Iwamoto, grandchildren Allison Hirota, Stephen Valenciano and Ryan Valenciano, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Garden Island Mortuary from 10 a.m., where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m.

Eunice Sawako Kagimoto Dobbins Nagel
Eunice Sawako Kagimoto Dobbins Nagel, 78, of Waimea, passed away on Oct. 12, 2017, at her home in Waimea.
Born on Oct. 10, 1939, in Hilo, Hawaii, she was retired from Walmart.
She was preceded in death by parents Sawaichi and Akiyo Kagimoto, son Thomas Kagimoto and sister Evelyn Durant.
She is survived by daughters Patricia (Mark) Isoshima, Pamela Dobbins, Libby (Tomas) Sales and Margaret (Mark) Dobbins, son Benjamin Dobbins, daughter-in-law Carol Kagimoto, 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, brothers Jerry (Judy) Kagimoto, Larry Kagimoto and Harry Moriwaki, sister Karen Michal, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Cross Net Ministries Hilo at 101 Aupuni St., Suite 147, in the old Hilo Lagoon Hotel from 9 to 10:45 a.m., where the celebration of life will be at 11 a.m.

Arthur ‘Gordy’ Gilbert Cano
Arthur “Gordy” Gilbert Cano, 62, of Lawai, passed away on Oct. 11, 2017 at his home.
He was born on Oct. 4, 1955, in Los Angeles. He was a butcher with the Makaweli Meat Company.
He is survived by wife Carol Fernandez Cano, daughters Jana Cano (Chad Ragsac) and Sierra Cano, son Jeremy (Rosalie) Fernandez of Maui, mother Eleanor Cano of California, brothers Paul Cano of California and Rueben (Cheryl) Cano of Maui, sisters Pauline Johnson (Jim Danich) of California and Linda (Ross) Renner of California, grandchildren Jaela and Ayanna Cano Ragsac, Cory, Brandon and Sienna Fernandez, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Paul Cano.
Services over ashes will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo at 9 a.m., with Mass to follow.
The family requests no wreaths, but welcomes flowers and lei.
Masako Omoto Nakata
Masako Omoto Nakata, 93, of Hanapepe, passed away on Oct. 15, 2017, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital
Born on Feb. 29, 1924, in Kapaia, she was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by husband Tsunemi Nakata, and parents Shoichi and Tama Omoto.
She is survived by sons Keith Nakata of Hanapepe, Russell (Joy) Nakata of Eleele and Lance (Dolly) Nakata of Puhi, daughters Susanne (Marvin) Shimatsu of Boise, Idaho, and Darlene Sugimoto of Pearl City, grandchildren Neil Shimatsu, Nathan Shimatsu, Alex Blackwell, Ryan Nakata, Jason Nakata, Robyn Nakata, Lee Sugimoto, Branden Sugimoto and Rae-Lynn Morikawa, great-grandchildren Grace Shimatsu, Hope Shimatsu, Cooper Shimatsu and Jakob Nakata, sisters Violet Inafuku of Pearl City and Amy Shirakawa of Seattle, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, Oct. 29, at Garden Island Mortuary chapel in Lawai from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., where services will be held at 3 p.m. Inurnment will be at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.
The family requests casual attire, and that flowers be omitted.
