MORAINE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a man who pointed a gun at two Ohio police officers investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle has been fatally shot by them.
Morain police Chief Craig Richardson says police shot Jamarco McShann on Friday in the Dayton suburb.
Richardson says the officers located the 23-year-old Dayton man in the vehicle while responding to the initial report and shot him when he pointed a handgun at them.
McShann died at the scene.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been asked to lead the investigation into what happened. Bureau spokeswoman Jill Del Greco says its Special Investigations Unit will conduct an independent investigation to determine the facts about what occurred.
The police chief says the two officers are on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
