Hot off the press!
“Into the Valley: Where Everything is Connected”, by Jamie VanBuhler, having just released, has immediately became one of our featured books!
This is one of the most stunning quality picture books we have ever seen that solely features the Kalalau Valley and the Na Pali Coast trail.
Presented in wide format hardcover with brilliant, glossy pages, the vivid imagery jumps off the page with every shot, providing us with vantages most of us would not have ever expected to see. Many of the images even span the entire width of the open book as if we were looking at the vista in real life!
Yet, “Into the Valley” goes a step further than the standard Kauai coffee table book. Counterbalanced with the lush color photography are many shots utilizing both black & white and sepia tones, giving us an even more fascinating look at the scenery, both wide and up-close.
Fascinating as well is VanBuhler’s focus on the various people who are visiting the Kalalau Valley… whether they be fully dressed or not!
Her tasteful compositions of the people in it remind us of John Wehrheim’s “Taylor Camp” book, and yet the individuals featured here often seem to blend with the landscape that they themselves are captivated by and enjoying. Interestingly, some of the nudes set against the incredible folds of the mountains look as if they came out of the prehistoric era! Jamie is wonderful in capturing everyday people in truly magical moments.
Interspersed between this amazing assortment of images are great evocative quotes from literature or some of the author’s own titles for the shots.
If you want to truly grasp the awe that people feel taking in the Na Pali coast and the Kalalau Valley, we highly recommend you pick this one up quick!
