ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a man shot and killed a woman and then wounded himself when a police officer fired at him.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that Athens-Clarke Police Chief Scott Freeman said the officer saw 27-year-old Nicholas Head shoot 28-year-old Quintavia Wade on Monday.
Freeman showed the officer’s body cam footage at a news conference and said the officer fired at least three rounds at Head before the suspect shot himself. Freeman did not say whether any of the officer’s shots struck Head.
Wade died at the scene. Head is in critical condition at a hospital with a gunshot wound to the face.
Freeman says the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between the victim’s cousin and Head.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will look into the shooting.
