Georgia fashion designer Mychael Knight, who was a finalist on the popular competition show “Project Runway,” has died. He was 39.
Knight’s friend Jerris Madison confirmed Knight died Tuesday outside of Atlanta surrounded by family and friends. Madison is editor and photographer of Obvious Magazine, a fashion, lifestyle and cultural publication.
An official cause of death has not been released, but Knight had extensively shared his five-year struggles with irritable bowel syndrome, writing in now-deleted Facebook posts that he suffered chronic abdominal pain, a “leaky gut,” extreme fatigue and exhaustion.
Madison described Knight as “innovative, unapologetic, kind and giving,” adding that his friend was “just an amazing man.”
In addition to his parents, Knight is survived by two sisters.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
