HONOLULU (AP) — Diocemy Saint Juste had school-record 39 carries for 202 yards and two touchdowns to help Hawaii snap a four-game skid and beat San Jose State 37-26 Saturday night.
Dru Brown threw for 173 yards and a score and his backup, Cole McDonald, threw his first career touchdown pass, for Hawaii (2-4, 1-3 Mountain West). Saint Juste came in needed 108 rushing yards to become the first Hawaii player to eclipse the 1,000-yard plateau in back-to-back seasons and is one of two players (Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor) in the nation with three 200-yard games this season.
Saint Juste capped a 14-play, 75-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter and McDonald’s 4-yard touchdown pass to Dakota Torres made it 14-10 with 34 seconds left in the half. Bryce Crawford made a 52-yard field goal as time expired and Hawaii went into the break leading 14-13. After Dylan Collie’s 22-yard touchdown catch, Montel Aaron hit Rashead Johnson for a 59-yard score to pull the Spartans to 21-20 going into the fourth.
After another 1-yard touchdown by Saint Juste, Johnson returned the kickoff 98 yards for a score, but the PAT-attempt was blocked by Viane Moala and returned 98-yards by Rojesterman Farris II to make it 30-26 and Ryan Tuiasoa capped the scoring on a 3-yard run with 6:09 to play.
Aaron was 17-of-22 passing for 322 yards and two TDs, both to Johnson, for San Jose State (1-7, 0-4). The Spartans have lost six in a row.
