A taiko drumming lecture, demonstration and hands-on workshop for beginners of all ages will be presented amongst the 88 Shrines of the Lawai International Center by members of Taiko Kauai from 3 to 4 p.m. next Saturday.
The public is welcome to come and experience this rare opportunity to touch the heart of a rhythmic tradition.
Taiko Kauai, a school of traditional Japanese drumming, was established 14 years ago, and offers this hand-on experience.
“We warmly welcome you for an afternoon filled with pulsating sounds that will echo through the valley,” according to a press release.
Gates open at 2 p.m., and guests are also welcome to take a tranquil walk on a hillside with the 88 shrines and experience the hand-carved, 13th-century Japanese structure, the Hall of Compassion. A jewel in the state of Hawaii, it is also one of the last of this traditional architecture to be built in the United Sates.
Lawai International Center is a nonprofit, nondenominational community project driven by volunteers, whose earnest efforts are bringing the valley back to prominence as an international center of compassion, education and cultural understanding for all people.
Donations are appreciated. Proceeds benefit LIC.
