ST. LOUIS (AP) — A former employee of a Missouri school district has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for embezzling $1.6 million from the district.
The sentence handed down Friday for 51-year-old Angela Huskey of De Soto also requires her to pay back the money. She was accused of taking the money from the the Grandview R-2 School District, a St. Louis-area district where she worked for more than 20 years.
Prosecutors say Huskey made payments to herself and used district money for personal expenses.
She falsified the district’s records to conceal her crimes, in some cases by inflating reported wages for 18 other district employees. Federal prosecutors say that resulted in those employees paying more than $13,000 in extra taxes.
Huskey pleaded guilty in June to federal fraud charges.
