ATLANTA (AP) — An Atlanta TV news anchor says he’s quit his job at the CBS News affiliate to run for Congress against Republican Rep. Karen Handel, whose election this summer capped the most expensive U.S. House race in history.
Bobby Kaple said Wednesday that he can succeed where fellow Democrat Jon Ossoff fell short in the June special election for Georgia’s 6th District. Handel kept the seat in GOP hands by winning a June 20 special election after Republican Rep. Tom Price stepped down to join President Donald Trump’s administration. More than $50 million was spent on the race. Handel must seek re-election to a full term next year.
Kaple says he left his job at WGCL-TV to enter the 2018 campaign because he can’t stand to “simply report on this mess.”
