BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Daniel Smith tossed four touchdown passes and Campbell handled Valparaiso 49-10 on Saturday.
Smith went 18 of 27 for 257 yards and set a school Division I era (since 2008) record for touchdowns accounted for in a game to help Campbell (4-2, 3-0 Pioneer Football League) stay undefeated atop the conference.
Valparaiso (2-4, 1-2) actually led early, as Cody Boxrucker’s 2-yard plunge gave the Crusaders a 7-0 lead not 4 minutes in. But Campbell answered with a 10-play, 75-yard drive which culminated on Montel Goods’ 1-yard touchdown run. Goods finished with 88 yards on 18 carries.
Campbell scored three more touchdowns in the first quarter, including Wale Ashaye’s 15-yard fumble recovery for a score.
The Camels added to the onslaught in the second quarter as Smith hit Michael Wooten for a 69-yard touchdown pass. Zach Roderick had four catches for 48 yards with two touchdowns and Trey Sanders added a 46-yard score among three catches.
