HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Lorenzo Lee Nunez threw three touchdown tosses to Austin Mitchell as Southeastern Louisiana pulled away in the final quarter for a 49-30 win over Incarnate Word Saturday in a game that was moved forward because of Hurricane Nate.
The game was moved forward four hours, starting at 10 a.m. Central.
Nunez threw for 159 yards with Mitchell catching four passes for 143 yards which included a 70-yard touchdown play. Marcus Cooper rushed for 148 yards on 13 carries and Darren Johnson rushed for 130 yards on the same number of carries.
Southeastern Louisiana (3-3, 3-1 Southland Conference), which won its third straight, never trailed but could not pull away from the Cardinals until the final quarter. The Lions led 28-20 at the half. Incarnate Word (0-5, 0-3) closed to 28-23 following Jose Perez’ 48-yard field goal. The Lions then outscored UIW 21-7 in the fourth.
Sean Brophy threw for 180 yards and one score for UIW.
