Happy birthday, Jim Jung, who did his usual Monday docent duty at the Kauai Museum (does anyone know what kind of fancy white flower is growing in the moku gardens?) before adjourning for lunch at the Garden Island Barbecue & Chinese Restaurant.
Jim said he’ll be doing tsuru (paper cranes) at the Matsuri Saturday (don’t forget the Coconut Festival at Kapaa Beach Park, too) at the convention hall.
Greg Askew of Ono Pops (they were at the Kauai Mokihana Festival, too) said Chef Candice has made more than 300 coconut pops and more than 150 chocolate coconut pops for this year’s event (if the sun stays out, it’ll go like hotcakes), and Risa Clemmons (she was at the Mokihana Festival, too) is coordinating the crafters for the two-day event. Now, did Chef Judy Capertina of Haole Girl Island Sweets make the connection?
Elvrine Chow said she was willing to sponsor Jennifer Ortal for the cooking contest, and Liz Hahn of Kauai Bettas just sent off a box of bettas (yes, the U.S. Postal Service does well) for the California Betta show, the only international show for this fall.
OK, Aletha Kaohi said they’ll be doing the He Inoa No Kaumuali‘i Ho‘olaule‘a-Na Makana Poina‘ole Saturday from 10 a.m. at the Waimea Sugar Mill site, with entertainment, awards, and kupuna demonstrations and talks.
