Kudos to Kauai Community College hospitality and tourism students Janice Mones and Edlene Medina (she loves coconuts, but hasn’t been to the Coconut Festival!) for manning the World Tourism Day table Saturday at the Kauai Community Market. The girls were talking with the real Amber McClure and soliciting entries for the big giveaway, which was announced during the Kauai Mokihana Festival.
World Tourism Day is sparked by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (more than 1.2 billion travellers crossed international borders in 2016), and this year focuses on tourism as a driver of economic growth, and tourism and a greener future.
East Kauai Lions Harvey Kinoshita and Barbara Gusman (she said Chef Lucas Sautter of the Courtyard by Marriott will be doing a demo at the Coconut Festival, and Kap, one of the Coconut Festivals’ performers, will be doing a Saturday show at the Coconut Beach hotel) were busy collecting food for the Kauai Independent Food Bank at the Big Kmart (thank you, cruise ship passengers, for being so generous!).
Kudos to Susan Campbell and her ohana at the Emerging Artists (County Councilmember Derek Kawakami even created, and sold, a gift bag to help the Kalaheo School PTSA!) for also collecting food (yep, that’s where the vote proceeds went to) for KIFB.
