LIHUE — Volunteers will be collecting food at three differents sites Saturday to help the Kauai Independent Food Bank launch its annual Holiday Healthy Food and Fund Drive.
Volunteers from the Kapaa High School Key Club will be collecting food and funds at the Cost U Less location from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
They will be joined by students from the Kauai High School Leo Club who will be collecting at the Kukui Grove Center with the assistance of the Kauai Lions Club, the island’s newest Lion Club.
Members of the East Kauai Lions Club will be taking shifts in front of the Big Kmart store.
Leona Perez, KIFB programs manager, said the goal of the Holiday Food and Fund drive is to collect 45,000 pounds of food and raise $45,000 to assist in the food bank’s operations of getting food to keiki and kupuna as well as provide food in the face of emergencies.
The drive continues through Dec. 31. People can also contribute at any of the Kauai fire stations, or at the Kauai Independent Food Bank facility in Nawiliwili.
