LIHUE — Police arrested a 20-year-old Kapaa woman after she allegedly assaulted a Kauai Bus driver at Kukui Grove Center Friday night.
The victim, a 50-year-old woman of Anahola, suffered injuries to her face and was treated at the scene by medics.
According to a preliminary police report, the suspect, Brandie McCarthy, was attempting to ride The Kauai Bus at Kukui Grove Center fronting First Hawaiian Bank, while carrying a bottle of liquor.
As the bus driver was informing McCarthy that drinking alcohol was prohibited on the bus, McCarthy argued and struck the bus driver multiple times in the face.
McCarthy exited the bus and was quickly stopped by police officers who happened to be near the scene.
Police and medics were called to the scene about 9:30 p.m.
McCarthy was booked for third-degree assault, interference with the operator of a transit vehicle, and prohibitions. She is being held at police cellblock with bail set at $1,550.
An investigation continues.
