Process for driver’s license is silly
When we all took our driver’s permit here in Hawaii, the documents (birth certificate and Social Security number) were needed to get your permit. When it was time to take our driver’s license, the very same information from the documents (birth date and SSN) were transferred onto the license.
Then before your driver’s license expired on our birthday of the expired year, you have to go to the driver’s license department with your about-to-expire license, do an eye test and if pass your license is renewed with the exact information as the expired license. The only difference today is that you have a license number instead of your SSN.
Excuse me! Unless I or any of you died and were reborn, why do we need to bring our birth certificate and SSN card again? Then to add salt to the wound, why do we have to come up with two utilities bills to show physical address? If you forget these documents you will get turned away and no renewal of your driver’s license.
Since the DMV/driver’s license department requests the documents mentioned above, they should mail out a reminder to us before (at least two months) our driver’s license expires and list the documents required. Kind of like how they do with our vehicle registration.
With this said, hopefully the state is not trying to discourage us from renewing our driver’s license and forcing us to take a public transportation.
