Manuel ‘Americano’ Ufina Unciano
Manuel “Americano” Ufina Unciano, 84 years old passed away on Sept. 3, 2017, at Kauai Veteran Memorial Hospital. Born on Feb. 19, 1933, in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was formerly employed with Waimea dairy and retired from Kekaha Sugar.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nemesia S. Unciano; parents, Catalino and Brigida Unciano; sister, Vida Aschinger; brother, Jaime Unciano; twin sibling, Angelito and Angelita Unciano; hanai parents, Crisanta Ufina and Epifanio Torres; brothers-in-law, Alan Aschinger and Benito Sarmiento; father-in-law, Luis Sarmiento; mother-in-law, Elena Sarmiento.
He is survived by his children, Marietta “Mars” (Jonathan) Oyamot of Hanapepe, Consolacion “Consa” (Neil) Pigao of Eleele, Eric (Tina) Unciano of Eleele, Edgar (Geri) Unciano of Hanapepe, Edelwisa (Anthony) Cruz of Hanapepe; sister, Benedicta (Everett) Vicerra Brumaghim of Lani City; grandchildren, Taysia and Jayson Oyamot, Kyle and Alyssa Pigao, Chastity Hada, Tyrelle, Tysson and Tyreen Unciano and Austin Cruz; great grandchild, Hunter Kostjuk; hanai sisters, Teresita (Frank) Torres-Dino of California, Pilar Torres of Philippines, Nora (Gerald) Torres-German of Texas; brother-in-law, Domingo (Cora) Sarmiento; sister-in-laws, Eugenia Realon, Emerita Sarmiento; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Waimea Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Cemetery. Casual attire.

He was born on July 8, 1960 in Waimea, Kauai
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pak Sheong (Rosabelle Paalua) Yong.
He is survived by his wife, Ermine Akuna of Kalaheo; son, Hanaike (Crysel) Niheu of Hanapepe; daughter, Rebecca Niheu-Yong of Hanapepe; step-sons, Michael Akuna of Hanapepe, Bernard (Jessica) Jr. Lancaster of Hilo, Kyle Lancaster (Latasha Vegas) of Eleele, Levi Lancaster of Eleele, James Mcmahan of Eleele, Shylo Akuna of Eleele; step-daughters, Coty (James) Hensley of Koloa, Bernadene Lancaster of Hanapepe, Cheyenne Mcmahan-Akuna of Koloa and Shania Akuna of Eleele; brother, Robert (Sharon) Yong of Kealakekua; sisters, Stephanie (Scott) Taylor of Waimea, Yosabel Yong of Kekaha, Bernice (Joseph Sablan) Yong of Kekaha; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai from 3 to 3:45 pm where a celebration of life will be at 4 p.m.

Kenneth W. Smith, age 90, of Ferndale WA, passed away on Sept. 7, 2017. Ken was a Presbyterian minister for over 40 years, 13 in Waimea, and author in retirement.
