Congratulations to Kapaa Elementary School on its new library (Manny Henriques and Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. remember the “small” library when they were in school)! Mahalo to Dale Keep and Mia Checkly (her granddaughter goes to Kapaa El) for keeping everyone in the loop.
Mayor Bernard is more than about the connectivity — he was the “microphone stand” for Lady Ipo Ferreira (Kapaa El student Carlyn Rapozo goes to her church) during the blessing — did you get the photo, Kaleo Carvalho (he is a Kapaa El alum, too)? Besides being an alumnus of Kapaa El, Mayor Bernard’s daughter Britney is a teacher there and his granddaughter is a student, there.
Cherish Gokan is the teacher of the fourth graders, and Galen Gokan got to take a break from heat abatement work along with Arnold Leong (he’s cooking for the Camp Agape coming up in October) to enjoy some of that Safeway cake (who was grinding the watermelon — rind and all?) to celebrate the occasion.
Carrice Caspillo Gardner (she’s a Kapaa El alum, too) congratulated everyone on behalf of Gov. David Ige after doing similar duty at the opening of the Unlikely Liberators exhibit Tuesday at the Kauai Veterans Center.
OK, time to check out the Kauai High School homecoming — it’s the last of the Friday night football!
