LIHUE — A Waimea man was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday.
Eldred B. Silva Jr. appeared before Judge Kathleen Watanabe on charges stemming from an incident in June 2016 in which police say he bit, choked and punched his girlfriend during an early morning attack at the couple’s home.
Silva, 32, has previous criminal history including convictions in 2015 for felony domestic abuse in the presence of a minor, misdemeanor convictions for assault in 2013, unlawful imprisonment in 2012, and domestic abuse in 2006.
“Today, this defendant’s violent history caught up to him. Domestic violence is one of the most serious problems facing this community,” Kollar said.
