LIHUE — The Kauai chapter of the American Cancer Society will host its seventh annual Bark For Life Kauai on Saturday at Hokuala.
Bark For Life is a fun, ACS fundraiser that honors the benefits of pets and the relationship between dogs and their owners while raising money to help cancer patients on Kauai and fund research.
This year’s bark offers ocean views, a shady walk, contests with prizes, an agility course and a silent auction.
Registration is at 7 a.m. The non-competitive walk begins at 8 a.m., and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. there will be contests, including best smile, pet owner lookalike, best costume, best trick, and fastest eater small and large.
Prizes for dogs and people were donated by Natural Pet Hawaii.
There will be a silent auction with gift certificates.
This early morning of dog fun is at the end of Hoolaulea Way, near where Whaler’s Brewpub and the shops used to be (turn off Nawiliwili Road as if going to the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club and continue on that road to the end. There will be signs).
Everyone is encouraged to come out. People participate for various reasons: To honor the unconditional love of canines, celebrate cancer survivorship, honor people and pets lost to cancer, and fundraise in support of the American Cancer Society’s mission of eliminating cancer in hopes that one day no one will ever have to hear the words “you have cancer.”
“Everyone will make new dog and human friends at this fun event,” according to a press release.
Registration is $25 for one canine and its human companion, $40 for two, or $100 for a team of five. Those who do not have dogs but want to support Bark For Life may come for the fun and donate.
