Greg Askew was in the same boat, overflowing with not only the market and First Saturday, but having Candice Boxer handle the Heiva I Kauai (Cathy Teri‘ipaia loves the strawberry lemonade).
Kudos to Tepairu and Jo Manea on another great heiva (even Ray Carpenter was out on two days, and Lt. Shawn Keoho of the The Salvation Army (Katie Beer said they still have tickets for the Friday 120th anniversary celebration available) made it all the way from Hanapepe.
Kudos to Unio Punzal for sharing his coconut frond weaving tent at Heiva I Kauai with Stuart Lloyd of Australia (how come everyone thought he was from New Zealand?) who created some fabulous utility baskets which he said is compostable once it’s outlived its use. Bon Moore is one of Stuart’s students, but instead of coconut fronds, uses coconut fibers to create fine twine for use in jewelry and art.
Friday is also the last bon dance at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital from 6 p.m. (go early, the kupuna like to go sleep early). What flavor flying saucer is Arnold Leong going to concoct for this event?
