HANALEI — Two meetings are slated next week on a project designed for safe access to the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge.
The meetings are scheduled Aug. 7 at the Princeville Community Center’s Aloha Room from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Aug. 8 in Hanalei at Hale Halawai in the Aloha Pohai Room from 4 to 7 p.m.
A presentation will provide background on the project.
The proposed site would provide parking, interpretive information, and wildlife observation for the Hanalei NWR that is otherwise closed to public access.
The refuge’s mission includes conserving cultural resources and endangered species and providing recreational opportunities and environmental education.
Representatives from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the state Department of Transportation and County of Kauai will be there to address questions and comments from the public.
