KAPAA — A lot of firsts floated in the air Wednesday during the Rotary Club of Kapaa meeting at Mariachi’s.
Rotary District 5000 Hawaii governor Nalani Flinn, described by Assistant District Governor Ray Paler as the first governor of Hawaiian descent, hosted a special meeting of Rotary Club of Kauai representatives before proceeding to induct new members into the Kapaa organization.
Paul Arrigo, sponsored by Ray Carpenter, is a returning member to the Rotary Club, and Flinn turned the meeting over to him because of his familiarity with the Four Way Test.
Josie Pablo, sponsored by Neva Olson, became, as Gov. Flinn described, “the newest Rotarian.” She also becomes the second Josie in the Rotary Club of Kapaa, joining club president Josie Cortez.
“Neva was my boss,” Pablo said. “She sponsored me, and the Mahelona Hospital Auxiliary is paying the costs of being a Rotarian. I am familiar with the Rotarians because of the work they do for the hospital, and the way I see it, if we collaborate, there is a lot more that can be done for the residents and the community.”
Olson triggered enthusiastic applause by announcing that Pablo’s induction is a first — the first corporate membership for the Rotary Club of Kapaa.
