Ferdinand Dosono (ever notice how nice that aroma of pickled vegetables are when you pass the table?) is going to demonstrate kalbi and Tesla is going to have some of their cars on display at the Kauai Culinary Market today at The Shops at Kukuiula, said Melissa McFerrin-Warrack. The weekly market runs from 3:30 to 6 p.m. (go early before Helen Lacono and Ku‘u Breen run out of soups — yes, there’re more than one kind).
Melissa (mahalo for the help with “The Lion King Jr.” — if you missed it, yes, the Mouse was there, too) and Char Jensen were trying to figure out new kickers for the market, and Laurie Ho (Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair is right around the corner) was trying to figure out how they got so much food in the container (it’s not styrofoam, Carolyn Price).
JQ Smith (remember the double Purple Heart vet from the “MASH” production?) said he wants to make sure everyone knows he’s the Toys for Tots coordinator for the United States Marine Corps League, “inheriting” the position from Norberto Garcia.
Good luck to Leina‘ala Pavao Jardin and Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala (the hiuwai protocol was as awesome as ever) at the Queen Lili‘uokalani Keiki Hula competition. Attending the hiuwai was great — especially afterwards when Kane Turalde and Uncle John Kaneholani (one of Kane’s ohana lives next to John’s sons) were harvesting salt before the rains.
