Hawaii Children’s Theatre has awarded the 2017 Ethan Shell Memorial College Scholarships for Performing Arts to Grace Yatsko, Beorn Chantara and Tirah Brings.
Yatsko will be attending Western Washington University in the fall as a freshman, majoring in English with a minor in theater.
Chantara is studying music education at the Anglo-American University in Prague, Czech Republic, and will minor in musical theater.
Brings will be studying creative media this coming fall at University of Hawaii, West Oahu campus.
These scholarships are in memory of Ethan Bradford Shell, who grew up on Kauai and participated in numerous HCT productions and programs.
Shell had graduated from college in New York City, and was working in an off-Broadway play and as a model when he died suddenly from an undiagnosed heart condition in 2010, at age 21.
HCT and his family started the scholarship program to support first- or second-year students who will be majoring or minoring in performing arts.
This is HCT’s eighth year to gift college tuition monies to Kauai’s talented kid. Scholarship applications for 2018 will be available at www.hawaiichildrenstheatre.org in February.
