Is summer sushi like summer soup? And, who is Mrs. Roboto? Candida Kim (you gotta go check out ‘Arigato, Mrs. Roboto’ at the Lawai Warehouse where Candida (it’s the same as “Dida” which is how Melissa McFerrin-Warrack describes her) plies her unique Asian cuisine (she even knows about extending burgers; calls it the “hamburgers from saimin stands”).
Dida will be demonstrating summer sushi Wednesday during the Kauai Culinary Market Chef’s Demo at The Shops at Kukuiula (if you’re down there, congratulate Clayton Strang and his Crazy Shirts staff on being named the 2016 Store of the Year!).
Aletha Thomas was doing the sauerkraut demo, yesterday (Char Jensen said it goes good with grilling bockwurst for this long Fourth of July weekend). Char also said Ani Turner made her first appearance at the Kauai Culinary Market with Coconut Water Kefir Elixir which was selling well in the hot Poipu afternoon.
Over at the Koloa sunshine market (Brudda Branch Harmony has a new service dog — Au Hea came from New Zealand), Kathi Texeira of the Barrow (yes, Alaska) Lady Whalers had Jordan Ahgeak and Courtney Williams checking out the local produce, and if you need something to fill in the Tuesday afternoon (better than sitting in that Puhi traffic), check out Josh Fukino who wants to start doing community poi pounding at the Kauai Community College lo‘i.
