Show appreciation for Tropic Care
It was nice to see someone writing about showing our appreciation to the military personnel for their work at Tropic Care. The medical care is a great service to the community, the people who really benefit from the services. After spending the week working with them as volunteers, we learned that they were very eager to find out about our island. What they enjoyed most was meeting and talking with the people of Kauai. They were also interested in the local food and quickly got tired of the MRE meals they were eating.
Next time we should get more local people to show their appreciation with things like potlucks at the beach, hosting them for dinner, giving them rides to the beach and providing other touring opportunities. A number of people brought them food and fruit, which they greatly appreciated.
With 300 military arriving, it would take a lot of people volunteering and a great deal of coordination ahead of time to make it work. But, we could really show off our island and our wonderful people.

Kauai residents have been fortunate these past weeks. The Tropic Care Military Personnel have provided free medical care for residents at their clinics. We thank them for being here, being gracious, helpful and adding to the quality of life of Kauai residents. We are also grateful to the engineering component group who are building the walking spur up Kawaihau Road.
Over 25 local businesses were approached and asked to donate discounts for these hard working individuals. We compiled a list of restaurants and other businesses that agreed to offer a “Mahalo” discount. The discounts were warmly received by Tropic Care Military medical and engineering personnel.
The warmth extended to Tropic Care from our business community demonstrates the aloha that we embrace here on Kauai. Mahalo to the military personnel and the generous business owners. You are both much appreciated!

I would like to thank the wonderful people who make it possible to have a monthly parent support group for families of children with autism, developmental disorders and behavioral challenges.
This opportunity each month has given me a time to talk with other parents and professionals which help strengthen me as a parent and gives me hope for the future.
Easter Seals Kauai has provided us with a safe and nurturing location. The Autism Task Force has provided excellent childcare.
At every meeting, parents are provided delicious coffee. Waimea Theatre helped families like mine experience our first ever movie together in the movie theater! It was an experience that I have waited for for eight years! Thank you to all the fine people and organizations who help me parent, advocate, understand, enjoy and educate my son here on Kauai.
