Hipolito ‘Anglay’ Gandeza Aquias
Hipolito “Anglay” Gandeza Aquias of Hanamaulu passed away on June 24, 2017, at the age of 82. He was born in Tayum, Abra, Philippines, on July 10, 1934, and retired as an irrigator with Lihue Plantation.
He was preceded in death by his parents Regino and Dionisia Aquias, wife Adelaida Aquias, grandson Michael Aku Harper, and numerous siblings, nephews and nieces.
He is survived by daughters Gloria Aquias Tanner, Emma (Jimmy) Aquias Iloreta and Evelyn (Catalino) Aranda, sons Leonard (Editha) Aquias, Freddy Aquias, Jerry (Mary) Aquias, Renante (Charie) Aquias, mother of his children Plebecita Jaquias, grandchildren Erica Tanner, Heather Iloreta, Holly Iloreta, Joshua Iloreta, Jason Iloreta, Curtis Aranda, B.J. Aranda, Ace Aranda, Emily Aranda, Max Aranda, Jordin Aranda, Julius Aranda, James Aranda, Silas Aranda, Adrian Aquias, Jerry Aquias, Jana Aquias, Hollywood Aquias, Maelani Aquias, Austin Aquias, Isaiah Aquias, Jaslyn Aquias, Micah Aquias, Cyril Aquias and Charrice Aquias, great-grandchildren London Kelly, Kylee Harper, Shilo Harper, Noah Aquias, Dilan Aquias, Roman Aquias, Lilly Aquias, Elijah Aquias and Maia Aquias, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 8, at St. Catherine Church, with visitation from 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Aquias family with arrangements.
Letitia ‘Letty’ Okino
Leticia “Letty” Vasquez Okino of Lawai passed away on May 9, 2017, at the age of 53. Born on Jan. 7, 1964 in Waimea, she worked as a personal assistant at Ho’oheno.
She is survived by her son Chad M. Okino, parents David and Lita Vasquez, and brother David (Cristina) Vasquez, Jr.
A service will be held for all those who have known and loved her at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo on July 1, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
James Fumiyo Oyama
James Fumiyo Oyama passed away on June 11, 2017, in Lihue. He was born on June 10, 1940, and was a retired Hawaiian Airlines employee.
He was preceded in death by father Kiyoshi Oyama and mother Kimie Oyama.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen Oyama, sons James “Jimmy Boy” (Lynn) Oyama of Kauai, Dennis Oyama of San Diego, Malcom Oyama, Garrett (Thelma Ramos) Oyama Sr., Brennen (Giselle) Bucao of Kauai and Blain (Kimberly) Bucao of Kauai, daughters Deedee Ibaan of Las Vegas, Ruby (David) Oshida of Kauai and Brandee (Brian) Holt of Kauai, 25 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, brothers Seichi (Ethel) Oyama of Lawai, Roy (Gladys) Oyama of Kalaheo and Herbert Oyama of Honolulu, sister Betty (Earl) Kobayashi of Kailua, Kona, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on July 8, 2017, at Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. with services to follow at 10 a.m.
Private scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.
The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Joseph E. Sabala
Joseph E. Sabala, 84, passed away on June 4, 2017, at his home in Pearl City.
He is survived by his sons Leonard (Lola), Jonathan Sr., daughter Shelly (James) Espiritu, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held on July 8 at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m., with Mass at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon follows the service.
Frances Tazuko Ikeda
Frances Tazuko Ikeda, 89, of Lawai, passed away on June 17, 2017.
Born on March 30, 1928 in Elk Grove, California, she was a retired clerical clerk with Boeing. She was married in Las Vegas on Feb. 17, 1979.
She was preceded in death by her husband Katsumi Ikeda, parents Kumazo and Shizuko Takeda, brothers Fred (Reiko) Takeda, Harris (Judy) Takeda, Paul Takeda, Robert Takeda, sisters Lucy (Eddie) Kitayama, Mary (Ed) Robinson, nephews Johnny Kitayama and Tony Takeda, and stepson Richard O’Brien.
She is survived by stepson Patrick Ikeda of Honolulu, stepdaughter Diane (Brian) Turnbull of California, grandsons Brandon and Blake Ikeda of Honolulu, brothers Alfred (Jinko) Takeda of California and Tom (Rumi) Takeda of California, and sister Lorraine (Kazoh) Watanabe of Japan.
She was a beloved auntie to numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at a future date.

Teodorico Gacusan
Teodorico R. Gacusan of Lihue passed away at Garden Isle Health Care on June 5, 2017, at the age of 77. He was born in Moncada, Tarlac, Philippines on July 1, 1939, and retired from Lihue Plantation as an irrigator.
He was preceded in death by his parents Urbano Gacusan and Romana Repalda Gacusan.
He is survived by wife Gloria, children Anna Lisa, Noli, Cori and Carlos (Joy), five grandchildren, sisters Mely Gacusan Cagulao and Linda Gacusan Obillo, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, July 5, at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall, with visitation from 9 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire.

Lucena Balaan Rivera
Lucena Balaan Rivera, 87, of Koloa, passed away on June 13, 2017, at her home in Koloa.
Born on Oct. 19, 1929 in the Philippines, she was a retired housekeeper at Sunset Kahili.
She was preceded in death by husband John Rivera.
She is survived by sons Edwin (Letty) Rivera, Roland (Carmen) Rivera, Edgar (Celeste) Rivera and Fredy Rivera, daughters Susan Reynolds, Linda Otani, Eva (Calvin) Tamagawa and Anita (Paul) Applegate, sisters Carol Hafalla and Emilia Rubio, 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 1, at St. Raphael Church in Koloa, from 8 to 9:45 a.m., where mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park cemetery.
