LIHUE — Sarah Manuel, Miss Kauai USA, said the rain made the flowers slippery, and they kept sliding off its holders, Saturday during The King’s Day Parade and Celebration.
The flowers and colors of the lei from each of the islands’ Pa‘u units have become one of the draws for the parade and ho‘olaule‘a which celebrate King Kamehameha I and his achievement of uniting the islands.
Pa‘u princesses from each of the islands in Hawaii join the celebration, adorned in flowers and colors of the island they represent.
This year’s celebration featured Kauai ali‘i Kaumuali‘i and Manokalanipo whose leadership allowed for peace and prosperity. The celebration also paid tribute and honored Kauai’s ocean voyagers.
The event was presented by the County of Kauai, and the Malie Foundation.
