Sgt. Chris Havermale of Virginia said he learned about kim chee when he was stationed in Korea. He jumped right into a kim chee burger served by Kauai Kim Chee Saturday during the Kauai Community Market featuring grillfest, at Kauai Community College.
Lt. Col. Julie Smith of Georgia, Spc. Derrick Moore of Virginia and Havermale are with Tropic Care Kauai 2017 and said they were told about the market at the daily briefing.
Dustin Stonner of Uncle D’s said the grillfest was hot and heavy with ribs going on his double grill, and Candace Boxer of Ono Pops (Greg Askew was at the King’s Parade and Ho‘olaule‘a at the Historic County Building) was going off on the Makaweli Beef venison sausage. She even had flat bread from Judy Capertina of Haole Girl Sweets (extern Val Goodrich is still going strong) along with some pineapple and okra treated with some Aunty Lilikoi sauces cooking in The Green Egg.
Kudos to Melissia Sugai, Nalani Brun, and all those people who braved the weather to host the King’s Day Celebration at Vidinha Stadium (yep, they were playing K-PAL football in the rain, too) and the Historic County Building.
