Cristeta B. Jardin, 81, passed away on May 28, 2017, at her residence. Born on March 21, 1936, in the Philippines, she retired as a field hand for Olokele Sugar Company and G&R.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mariano T. Jardin, mother Isabel Domingo, father Teodorico Basconcillo, and stepsons Moses and Stanley Jardin.
She is survived by sons Jesse (Marylou) Jardin of Hanapepe, Richard (Irene) Jardin of Tennessee, Marvin (Tanya) Jardin of Lihue, Gregory (Carolyn) Jardin of Eleele, Rudy (Maxima) Jardin of Kekaha, and Mariano (Virginia) Jardin Jr. of California, daughters Marita (Peter) Soriano of California, Mildred (Kenny) Wu of California and Clarissa (Keoni) Sandal of Kekaha, daughter-in-law Linda Jardin of Oregon, brothers Epifanio (Fortunata) Basconcillo of Alaska, Ernesto (Leonila) Basconcillo of Wailua, Teddy (Lilibeth) Basconcillo of Washington, Redel (Maryjane) Basconcillo of Washington, sisters Maria (Nelson) Pangilinan of the Philippines, Madalena (Joe) Basconcillo of Kapaa, Celestina (Abad) Bautista of Lihue, Nelia Basconcillo of Washington, Norma (Sammy) Delos Santos of Puhi and Thelma Basconcillo of Washington, 26 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 16, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 8 to 9:45 a.m., where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Apolonia Batangan Ramelb
Apolonia Batangan Ramelb passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on May 29, 2017, at the age of 73. She was born in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Feb. 8, 1944, and worked at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa as a laundry attendant for 23 years, from November 1990 until her retirement in February 2013 at the age of 69.
She was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Benita Batagan, brother Jose Batangan and son Pedro Ramelb.
She is survived by her sister Potenciana (Monico) Paguirigan and confidant Stanley Oshima. She is also survived by sons Amante (Julieta) Ramelb of California and Erwin (Alison) Ramelb of Oahu, daughters Fely (Fabian) Banasihan of Kauai and Janelyn (Ridel) Navor of Kauai, 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Loved ones and friends may visit the family on Wednesday, June 14, at the Koloa Borthwick Mortuary from 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 15, at Holy Cross Church, with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at the Hanapepe Public Cemetery.

Lucile Bernard Trueblood

Lucile Bernard Trueblood, 90, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, April 23, 1927. She passed on June 1, 2017, following a 13-month battle with cancer. Lucile is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harry A. Trueblood, Jr., who was the original developer of Princeville, at Hanalei. She is also survived by her children, Katherine Trueblood and John Trueblood; and grandchildren, Erin Astin and John “Jack” Trueblood. Lucile is preceded in death by her parents, George and Althee Bernard, and her brother, Tom Bernard. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 S. Quebec St., Englewood, Colorado, 80112.
Virgil ‘Boyd’ Thompson
Virgil “Boyd” Thompson of Lawai passed away on June 4, 2017, at the age of 88. Born on July 30, 1928 in Aurthur, Nebraska, he was a owner of Boyd’s Industrial Parts & Hydraulics.
He was preceded in death by his son Timothy Thompson, sister Arlene Samuelson, and parents Charles H. (Emma) Thompson.
He is survived by his wife Jean Thompson of Lawai, son Charles Thompson of Napa, California, daughters Sara (Scott) Sloan of Lawai, and Ellen (Vic Right) Thompson of Sebastopol, California, grandchildren Emma Sloan and Eli Sloan, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at the Waimea United Christian Church Saturday July 1. Family visitation is from 9 a.m., with a service to follow. The family suggests aloha attire.

Katsumi Ikeda
Katsumi Ikeda of Lawai, passed away at his home on June 5, 2017, at the age of 89.
Born on May 17, 1928, in Hanapepe, he was an electronics technician retired from Verizon.
He moved to the Mainland in 1960 and returned to Kauai following his retirement in 1988.
He was preceded in death by his parents Takuichi and Kiyome Ikeda, and son Richard O’Brien.
He is survived by his wife Frances Ikeda, son Patrick Ikeda, daughter Diane (Brian) Turnbull, grandchildren Brandon Ikeda and Blake Ikeda, sisters Kiyoko Ono, Fumie Saiki and Sachi Ikeda, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be announced at a future date
