Valerie Marie Knapp passed away on May 30, on Kauai surrounded by her family at the age of 82. She was born in Glens Falls, New York, on July 2. 1934.
Valerie is survived by her husband George; daughter Maria (Robert “Joe” Jr.) LaMadrid of Kapaa; sons, Paul (Yvonne) Sassone of Oregon, Steve (Lea) Sassone of California and Mark (Yukio) Sassone of Kapaa. 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Menlo Park California.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Knapp family with arrangements.

Jaime B. Basquez of Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii Passed away on May 22, 2017, at the age of 89. Born on Feb. 25, 1928, in Makaweli, Kauai, He was a retired Crash fire captain at Lihue Airport
He was preceded in death by: parents, Rufino and Maura Vasquez, wife Apolonia Basquez; brothers, Jesus and Querino Vasquez and niece Letty Vasquez Okino.
He is survived by: wife, Georgette Basquez, daughter’s, Marlene (Stuart) McAtee, Jessie Basquez, sons, Gerald “Shane” (Lorna) Basquez Zane (Sunday-Lee) Basquez, step-daughters Terrilyn (David) Amorin & Haunani Carineo, brother, David (Leticia “Lita”) Vasquez, 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchild.
Friends may visited with the family on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Kauai Veteran’s Cemetery, Hanapepe.

Apolonia Batangan Ramelb
Apolonia Batangan Ramelb passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 29, 2017, at the age of 73. She was born in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Feb. 8, 1944. She worked at the Grand Hyatt for 23 years since Nov. 1990 as a Laundry Attendant and retired in Feb. 2013 at the age of 69.
She was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Benita Batagan, brother Jose Batangan and son Pedro Ramelb.
Apolonia is survived by her sister Potenciana (Monico) Paguirigan and confidant Stanley Oshima. She is also survived by her 2 sons, Amante (Julieta) Ramelb of California and Erwin (Alison) Ramelb of Oahu, 2 daughters Fely (Fabian) Banasihan of Kauai and Janelyn (Ridel) Navor of Kauai. Apolonia has 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Love ones and friends may visit the family on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Koloa, Borthwick Mortuary from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Holy Cross Church from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
