KAPAA — Three units of the Kauai Fire Department responded to a report of an overturned boat in waters off Pono Kai Resort Saturday at about 7 p.m.
When the first responders arrived at the scene, they found the bow of the boat bobbing in the ocean approximately 200 yards outside of the Waikaea Stream canal.
On shore they encountered the boat owner and his passenger who had made their way to safety and needed no medical attention.
The fishermen explained that they were heading into the canal when a large wave overcame their boat.
The incident was then turned over to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The first responders returned to their respective stations at approximately 7:30 p.m.
