LIHUE — Garden Island Federal Credit Union presented $1,000 scholarship awards Friday to three graduating Kapaa High seniors — Caleb Keohohou, Eryn Yamashiro and Jerena Perez-Jacinto. Each recipient is a member of Garden Island Federal Credit Union, and will be enrolling full time in an accredited university in the fall semester.
All applicants were considered based on financial need, academic merit, community service, extra-curricular activities, awards and achievements, personal essay and letters of recommendation.
“This is Garden Island Federal Credit Union’s sixth year offering a scholarship program,” said Stephanie Shinno, Garden Island FCU’s marketing coordinator. “We are so impressed by all of the recipients and the accomplishments they have made so far. We are honored to help these students grow in their education.”
“Our scholarship committee thoroughly reviewed each student’s application and letters of recommendations,” Shinno said. “The three applicants were extremely close in every criteria, and their community service records were outstanding.”
The staff of Garden Island FCU in Lihue and Koloa congratulated the three scholarship recipients and wished them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
