LIHUE — John Austin Keikialoha Ka‘ohelauli‘i-Kahokuloa had a week to get the words to the national and state anthem, said John Constantino of the Kauai Community College.
It was sufficient as the Kauai Community College student opened the 52nd annual commencement where more than 150 students walked under the canopy of music from the KCC Wind and Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Sarah Tochiki.
Major Victor Aguilar, director of the Waimea High School JROTC, said there were no seniors in the color guard and saber unit who provided the protocol for the graduating college students.
“The seniors all turned in their equipment, including uniforms, to get their senior obligations out of the way,” Aguilar said. “They need to get everything out of the way before graduating, Friday at 6 p.m. on the school’s front lawn.”
