Kauai High School’s Taegan Keep won gold in the final day of the Island Movers Track and Field Championships state meet on Saturday.
The Red Raiders junior placed first in the girls discus throw event at Keaau High School on the Big Island with a distance of 135 feet, 7 inches, beating out Farrington High School’s Brittany Kamau and Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii’s Taylor-James Sullivan.
After placing first in boys 300-meter hurdles preliminaries, Island School’s Kilikai Ahuna placed second in the final event with a time of 40.50 seconds. As Ahuna took silver, Lahainaluna’s Carver Locke won gold with a time of 39.89 seconds.
Kauai High’s Kane Casillas placed sixth, and Kapaa’s Garret Smith finished eighth in the boys 1,500-meter run finals.
Casillas clocked a time of 4:16.47, and Smith clocked in at 4:21.74. Connor Lehl of Punahou School won gold in the event with a time of 4:03.35, which set a new venue record.
