PUA LOKE — Kauai Fire Chief Robert Westerman and Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. were pleasantly surprised Friday during the opening of the two-day M. Kawamura Farm Enterprise garden expo.
Toshiya Fukushiro, president of Maruyama, one of the vendors at the expo, was joined by John Barrett, Maruyama Pacific Region manager, and Dan Forester, Maruyama East Coast manager, in presenting Westerman and Carvalho with a check of more than $5,000, representing a portion of Maruyama products sold during the 2016 expo.
“Dan is a former firefighter and knows what firemen go through,” Barrett said. “He also knows that fire personnel use a lot of Maruyama products. We wanted to give something back, and after a lot of discussion, Dan suggested we support the Kauai Fire Department.”
Maruyama was one of the many vendors being handled by M. Kawamura Farm Enterprises and joined the rest of the field in offering special show specials. The expo also offered product users an opportunity to talk with manufacturer’s representatives.
