Happy birthday to Lily Watari, who opened her special day with a pancake breakfast at the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort as a fundraiser for the Visitor Industry Charity Walk coming up in May.
Lillian Watari, Lily’s mom, said she’s raised some funds on her own, selling plate lunches, and this week she’ll be doing some food at the tennis tournament taking place at Hanalei Bay Resort.
Kudos to Maile Lewis and Lian Javiar, who are already looking ahead to next year’s pancake breakfast!
Happy birthday, too, to Kaylynn Drake, who celebrated her 16th birthday Saturday by trying to be low key and focusing more on teen suicide awareness and prevention at the event presented by her foundation, Kekuaaloha Foundation.
Dickie Chang had back-to-back gigs, emceeing the Spring Gourmet Gala (congratulations to Mark Oyama, Matt Takata and the Gala committee) at Kauai Community College and then getting up early for the Kaylynn event at the Kapaa Beach Park.
Mary Lardizabal had her Heritage Music Festival award-winning chorus and ukulele band marking the start, and Mike Teruya was occupied with taking photos of the Joyful Noise taiko group (Alicia Hayakawa had to miss the event because she was battling the elements at the Kauai Interscholastic Federation qualifying golf tournament).
