Art Umezu got a break from budget talks Wednesday when Chris Machorek, general manager of the Courtyard by Marriott at Coconut Beach, presented a check for $250 earmarked for the Kauai Museum. Art and Michiru were also guests of Machorek and the Courtyard for lunch.
The check represented a congratulatory gesture from the Courtyard for Art and Michiru Umezu’s work in coordinating the Hula Festival featuring a Japan hula instructor, her students and a Japan ukulele band that was geared to raise funds for the Kauai Museum, and held at the Makaiwa Luau tent recently.
Kudos to Lawton Sugihara and the Contractors Association of Kauai on the launch of its 25th home show this weekend! Joe Grace has been there since the start, serving up his ono grinds. Sandi Kato-Klutke said the roast pork gravy is so good she could just have gravy and rice.
Kelvin Moniz came to check out Guy Higa (they’re both East Kauai Lions) and the Service Rental exhibit since Service Rental and First Hawaiian Bank were two of the original vendors when the home show first opened at the hurricane-ravaged Kauai High School gym.
OK, it’s off to Mokihana Aquatics time trials, the county’s age group track meet for the middle schoolers, and how about some Kauai Youth Football games?
