Fourteen of the 20 nominees from the Kauai Pop Warner Football League were selected for national recognition, said Blaine Agena, the KPWFL scholastic coordinator.
In 2017, more than 6,100 scholars, including the 20 from KPWFL qualified for the Pop Warner All-American Scholar program. The figure represents the top two percent of all scholar-athletes in the national Pop Warner program.
Agena said during the national announcement, eight KPWFL scholars were named to the Second Team All-American Scholars: Maeani Albilera, Ashlyn Agena, Ashley Alfiler, Cailin Pasion, Jaiden Sams, Kaizen Castillo, Kade Erdman and Joseph Sams.
Shylah Bagaoisan-Rita, Deyshia Kenney, Elias Casillas, John Bancroft, Carter Chihara and Makoa Vanaman were named to the Honorable Mention All-American Scholars list.
Agena said the award recipients will receive congratulatory letters from Pop Warner acknowledging their individual scholastic achievements, a certificate of achievement for National All-Americans and information about the Pop Warner National All-American Banquet which celebrates the accomplishments of the Pop Warner participants.
All Scholastic All-Americans, including the First, Second and Honorable Mention teams are eligible to attend the banquet which is held as part of the All-American Scholar Weekend which is held on May 26 and 27 at the Marriott in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
