Charlie Ortiz didn’t realize how big The Shops at Kukuiula are until he waited at the wrong end for the Lions participating in the Walking for Sight campaign. He had to check his email from Sandi Sterker before realizing he was on the wrong end.
Sterker said they were hoping to raise enough funds for another optical scanning machine, but were happy with whatever they could collect in the walk that involved a lot of the Hawaii Lions Clubs members.
The Lions walked to the Prince Kuhio Celebration taking place at the Prince Kuhio Park where Charlie recollected having to rebuild the stone walls following the hurricane. Warren Perry is a master at getting people to come out and help.
Actually, Brother Branch Harmony is pretty good at that, asking Paul Horner of The Club at Kukuiula to bring his Shindaiwa to the park cleanups since a lot of the Royal Order of Kamehameha people are getting on in years.
