KAPAA — An Anahola woman died from injuries sustained during a head-on wreck that occurred on the Kapaa Bypass Road on Tuesday afternoon.
Police have identified the victim as 72-year-old Lynette Lanning.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 21-year-old Kapaa man was heading north on the Kapaa Bypass Road near Crossroads Christian Church at approximately 4:30 p.m., when the Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Mazda sedan.
Lanning, who was driving the sedan, had a passenger in the front seat.
Everyone involved in the wreck were taken to Wilcox Hospital for medical treatment.
The driver of the truck and the passenger of the sedan, a 44-year-old Anahola man, both sustained non-threatening injuries and were released from the hospital Tuesday night.
Lanning was extracted from her vehicle following the crash and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she later died.
The south portion of the Kapaa Bypass Road, from the roundabout to the Wailua entrance, was closed from 4:30 p.m. to around 8:10 p.m. to allow traffic investigators to process the scene.
Police continue to investigate the cause of this crash.
