ANINI — The public is advised that Anini Road is temporarily closed to all vehicles over three tons.
The three-ton weight limit was posted two years ago at a bridge located 1.1 miles from Kalihiwai Road.
A recent bridge inspection has determined that the bridge has further deteriorated, potentially due to overweight loads traveling across the bridge.
The county is working on design and construction of a repair, which is projected to be constructed in or around July. The bridge is the only vehicular access into the Anini community.
To minimize further deterioration of the bridge before the repair is complete, the three-ton limit will be enforced. The bridge is marked by barricades that restrict traffic to one lane.
There is no place to turn around near the bridge, so motorists with overweight vehicles are advised against entering Anini Road from Kalihiwai Road.
