Congratulations to Yukie and Kevin De Silva on the successful launching of Moana 2, a 22-foot boat they created themselves (using a lot of empty gallon cans from Hanalei Poi and Taro). Of course, Wayne and Rita De Silva had to be there to watch the boat meet the waters of the Pacific Ocean for the first time at the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor. Wayne said that was not a bad effort for first-time amateur boat builders.
Kudos, too, to Lourdes Torres, Emilio Ruiz and their ohana on the blessing of the cricket booth at the Kauai Community Market (mahalo to Lady Ipo Kahaunaele Ferreira of Ke Akua Mana for expanding her blessing to include the new Sonic) Saturday.
Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. got to sample some of the cookies infused with cricket powder and said he’s extending an invitation to Lourdes to join them at this year’s Hawaii on the Hill in Washington, D.C.
Beth Tokioka (she was on hand with Marty Amaro to sell American Culinary Federation brunch tickets, coming up Feb. 19 at the Kauai Community College) said she has a hard time trying to do the cricket thing, but others were of differing opinion, wiping out Lourdes’ and Emilio’s opening day supply.
