One of the most spectacular features of The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon is the oceanfront finish in Poipu.
It’s changing — for the better, say organizers.
For the 2017 race, finish line festivities will be moved to the grounds of the Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu.
Koloa Landing is on Hoonani Road and provides the perfect backdrop and amenities for participants and their families as they finish their adventure in paradise. Finish line activities include the full and half marathon awards ceremonies, as well as food, refreshments and live entertainment until the early afternoon.
Overall course impact of finish line change:
• Start line festivities will remain the same at Poipu Shopping Village.
• Parking will be available along Kiahuna Plantation Drive, as well as on Poipu Road just like past events and return shuttles will be provided from the finish line.
• The actual start line will be moved .2 of a mile back to accommodate the change for the finish to be located at Koloa Landing. What this means for participants is that they will line up .2 of a mile west of Kiahuna Plantation Drive on Poipu Road for the start of the 2017 Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon.
The race continues to grow. Last year, 257 finished the full marathon and 1,352 finished the half marathon. A record 2,044 registered for the event.
The Ninth annual Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon is scheduled Sunday, Sept. 3.
