Santa Claus took time out from his busy schedule to visit with young shoppers and police officers at Kmart Thursday during the Shop With A Cop program. He was joined by Gini Kapali who was pressed into service as a volunteer by Rosie Carrillo (happy retirement after more than 14 years with the Children’s Justice Center!).
Kauai Police Chief Darryl Perry didn’t have to shop this year. Instead, he was joined by Anthony Florek, the Kmart manager, in congratulating Rosie for her service of coordinating the annual event. Hopefully, Rosie’s “time off” is less than a year so she continues to coordinate the holiday program.
Kudos to Vernon Vercelli of DOFAW for coordinating (what’s this? St. Theresa’s School is interested in a similar trip?) the Waimea Canyon Middle School field trip to the Kawaiele Waterbird Sanctuary. What a great way to spend a sunny Westside morning (even Dale of Alberta, Canada found some “new” birds for his collection). Calvin Paleka thought Mike Teruya was out there since he saw some of Mike’s birds on social media.
