The Ocean Safety Bureau has closed all North Shore beaches from Hanalei to Kee Friday because of hazardous ocean conditions, according to county officials.
Dangerous surf is being forecast along north- and west-facing shores through Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service Friday.
A combination of large surf, strong west and northwest winds, and higher-than-normal tides is the cause for what forecasters for the NWS say are “life-threatening surf” through early Saturday.
A high surf warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday along north- and west-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau.
Along those shores, surf is expected to be 25 to 35 feet.
On north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui, surf about 20 to 25 feet is expected.
Consult lifeguards before entering the water.
According to the NWS, “anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death.”
