WAIMEA — Kauai police have arrested a Waimea man in connection with a liquor store robbery Thursday morning in Waimea.
Dylan Kekoa Nunies, 18, was arrested for first-degree robbery in connection to a Thursday morning incident at Umi’s Store.
Police were called to the on Pokole Road at approximately 11 a.m. According to a preliminary report, a man walked into the store holding what appeared to be a hand gun and demanded money.
The suspect fled the scene on foot and police later located him at a nearby home, where they then identified him as Dylan Nunies.
Nunies is currently being held at police cellblock in lieu of $20,000 bail. He has not yet been formally charged.
The employee who was in the store at the time of the incident did not report any injuries.
While police searched for the suspect, who was believed to be armed, both Waimea Canyon Middle and Waimea High schools were placed on lockdown. The lockdowns were lifted roughly an hour later, once the suspect was in custody.
Police continue to investigate this incident.
